[00:01] REENA JADHAV: Hi everyone its Reena Jadhav and I have today with me the amazing Liliana Partida. Hey Liliana.

[00:07] LILIANA PARTIDA: Hello everyone.

[00:09] REENA JADHAV: So we’re going to talk about food labels. Why should you read them, how should you read them and why is this important because Liliana’s new weight loss boot camp is going to put you on the path to sustain weight loss. Weight loss that never comes back would that be great? All right Liliana over to you. So tell us why do we need to read food labels.

[00:27] LILIANA PARTIDA: Well it’s really important because we want to know what’s in that food, unfortunately, there’s so much deception on food labels all it has to have the green label on it or something that says natural on it. And we automatically think this is the health food and so again if they just take a little bit of time and remember when I said when you can’t pronounce it put it down and don’t eat it because you know it’s going to be a chemical. And so this is really kind of start right off the back. When you look at the food label and a lot of people don’t know this because they are looking at the word sugar as sugar that’s in that food but they don’t realize that the word total carbohydrates actually means that the sugar content when that food breaks down into your system. So I tell people okay you can look at the sugar content but even if it says zero sugar gram, the carbohydrate of that food will break down into glucose. So let’s just say for example Reena, a piece of bread, it says you always look at the serving size it will say one because it’s usually based on one serving and then it will say total carbs and it will say 20 grams of carbohydrate. Then what you are going to do is look down a little further right next to it and it will say fiber. Now fiber is the non-digestible element of the food very essential because it feeds the friendly bacteria so that we can have a healthier immune system. It requests our cholesterol and toxins; it keeps our bowel moving so we really do want that good fiber. It’s so essential and when we get back a lot of the grains people start having a few constipation issues because they’re not getting that fiber and this is why we have loaded up fiber into our menu list. And so what you want to look at is I can deduct the fiber from the total crap so let’s just say the piece of bread is 20 carbs that will be 20 grams of sugar. Now think about that. That’s going to be like 5 sugar cubes now if I put 5.5 sugar cubes in a glass of water and fill it up with water and handed it to you, you would not drink that because you think Oh my gosh that’s toxic to some degree right. And so I can deduct the fiber which will make it 50 grams of fiber and 20 grams of carbs it’s going to be a net 17 carbohydrate. So it’s really important to kind of factor how much does this really break down into glucose. We don’t look at the sugar; we look at the carbohydrates minus the fiber okay that’s very important. Now the other thing that we’re going to be looking at especially when you’re looking at food labels 99% of time you’re looking at something is going to be carbohydrate oriented right. Because mostly proteins and things like that really not going to have a food label on it or vegetables or any kind of fresh fruits there not really going to have a label on it so it’s going to be really something that’s either packaged or canned so it’s going to lean toward the carbohydrate. The other thing we want to pay attention to is all out of the hidden chemicals that are in there. And you know the top ten chemicals they’re going to be like palm oil and shortening and white flour and white sugar and high fructose and corns. High fructose of corn which is absolutely in everything and then, of course, all of your appertaining your nutrients should read towards zero carbohydrates but what we would consider the fractionated sugar not only are the carbs and it actually be chlorinated sugar towards zero sugar but they are an external toxic that means they fight your brain cells to death. And I don’t know about you but I’m not interested in dementia or Alzheimer’s disease and it’s so prevalent. So I say anything that has the word diet on it you’ve got to just let it go lovingly let it go because it isn’t going to be a friend to you at all and you’ve got the BHA, sodium nitrates those are all very toxic. And so when we’re trying to lose weight or trying to do is try to empty what we would consider our garages of all the excess and unfortunately, our fat cells happen to be our garages. So when we can’t break things down or our body does know how to use these toxic foods with what are we going to do Reena? It’s going to be put directly into a fat cell. When I tell patients who really are overweight it’s not a matter of what they are eating too much, possibly that they’re eating allergenic foods as a factor but also what it is that they’re not able to detox as quickly as these foods are coming or these chemicals that are coming in. So your body has no other place but to store in fat cells.

[04:56] REENA JADHAV: That’s great so we need to make sure that for all of you out there who are doing this weight loss bootcamp you become really good at reading labels and what that means is that you have questions send them our way when you log into the site you’ll see there’s a little me that pops up and says, “Do you need help?”  Click on it and send us a question or there’s lots of contact information everywhere shoot us a message let us know what’s confusing you, what help you need because I think this is a scale for the rest of your life and it’s a skill that once you become great at it you can teach your kids, you can teach your spouse,  your family members because I truly believe Liliana that reading labels is the most important step like the step one on your path to weight loss, on your path health. So thank you so much for sharing that that’s great and again you know will be having a lot of live calls in our weight loss bootcamp during the first few weeks. So we’ll be talking a little bit more about this than as well. Thank you so much we’ll see you on another one of these interviews. Thanks, Liliana.

[05:59] LILIANAPARTIDA: You are welcome Reena.
