[00:02] REENA JADHAV: We are on to chapter five of his amazing new book and the question is how to get high on plants for low blood pressure. What’s the essence of that chapter?

[00:11] DR. JOEL KAHN: It is very interesting if you look around the world the number one cause of death that is called the global burden of disease study is actually related to high blood pressure. Worldwide more people die related that book which are heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, aneurysm ruptures and any other name disease; pretty amazing statistics more than smoking. So and there’s been a live discussion new guidelines your blood pressure should be 130/80. So you have to know your blood pressure you can’t guess it and then what do you do if it’s creeping up or how do you maintain a normal. Turns out live database is based on whole grains legumes, drinking water, tea and black coffee is a foundation for maintaining normal blood pressure. Why is your food so much richer in magnesium, is the food much richer in potassium? They are lower naturally in salt you don’t have to worry about it because it just naturally don’t have much salt use spices like cumin and turmeric, and our fenugreek and some other food to be great thing and natural spices that help specific foods beets lower blood pressure, flaxseed lowers blood pressure, hibiscus lowers blood pressure but just generally a plant diet versus animal diet will tend to favor probably you are going to lose some weight which will help the march to a normal blood pressure to. Yeah of course some people get off the medication because they’ve decided they’ll change your lifestyle and do what needs to be done to control and return the blood pressure to normal.

[01:53] REENA JADHAV: Are there any specific plants that are your favorites for reducing blood pressure? Top three?

[01:59] DR. JOEL KAHN: You know if you can enjoy beets, beets are probably on top of my list particularly go to the grocery store you see the beets with all the greens, eat roots whether you sauté, whether you juice that whole thing, another little if you’re eating beets your blood pressure but you’re using scope and Listerine to make your breath friendly and enjoyable you actually maybe negating the benefit of beets and greens and such. You need some little bacteria on your tongue to utilize to its fullest some of these green leafy foods, beat foods and you actually kill those little poor bacteria that’s cruel with Listerine scopes so stop doing that gets some kind of natural non-alcohol, non-bacterial mouthwash if you want or you should keep a lot for the good upgraded toothpaste like [inaudible] It’s just one that comes to mind.

[03:04] REENA JADHAV: It got acquired and they messed up with the ingredients that I no longer use.

[03:08] DR. JOEL KAHN: And they changed the packaging isn’t stainless steel anymore.

[03:13] REENA JADHAV: Added a bunch of stuff to it honestly I love just regular trader Joe’s flon there’s a couple lean ones out there. I actually find that people who complain a lot of bad breath it’s not the teeth you’re trying to clean the teeth it’s poor digestion.

[03:30] DR. JOEL KAHN: Like a reflex.

[03:31] REENA JADHAV: Yeah it’s so you’re trying to fix you’re trying to get to mask the problem by killing like you said the good bacteria that’s in your mouth it’s completely counterproductive.
